REVIEW OF "TRACEY TAKES ON...": MONEY Apr. 2, 1997
by Roger Reini (rreini@wwnet.com)
This week, "Tracey Takes On..." took on money.
In this week's long sketches, Chic gets audited by the IRS (and rats on his brother in the process), Fern and Harry invest in an ostrich farm (and get more than they bargained for), and Linda sells her new line of recovery dolls on the Family Spending Channel (and, in the process, comes up with another idea for a doll -- all based on personal experience).
Short bits: HRH tries to interest Shaquille O'Neill in an honorary earldom (including the right to deflower virgins on one day of the year <g>); Ruby talks about stretching her money to make ends meet; Birdie tells how her husband has profited substantially from the tobacco industry; and Rayleen describes her new line of cosmetics with some uniquely Australian ingredients (liquefied koala dung?)
My initial impressions of this week's episode were mixed. For some reason, none of the sketches affected me that much, which is unusual. Then again, I was suffering from a nasty cold and had taken a cupful of Nyquil cold medicine. It does say not to drive under its influence. Personally, "TTO" is best viewed with a clear mind and clear sinuses <g>. The proof came when I watched the tape a couple of days later. What failed to move me the first time struck me as hilarious the second time around, especially Chic and the tax auditor. That might be a candidate for the best-of special. The ostrich sketch was pretty decent, too. Who else but Fern would call their ostriches Steve and Eydie?
FIRST VIEWING: I give this episode 3 1/3 stars. Musta been the Nyquil <g>. SECOND VIEWING: I give it 3 5/8 stars. It WAS the Nyquil <g>!
