REVIEW OF "TRACEY TAKES ON...": EROTICA, Feb. 3 1999

On this week's "Tracey Takes On...”, the theme is Erotica. It's not to be confused with Sex (that was two seasons ago).

The long sketches this week involve Janie's saving a work of art from damage and being aroused by its imagery, Chic's taping the erotic escapades of his passengers, and Linda being forced into sex slavery at the hands of a sultan, and having to do unspeakable things with Victoria Principal to win her freedom. Short bits include Madame Nadja's observation about the most erotic part of a woman, Hope's rationale for studying Spanish instead of German (Mexican wrestlers), Fern's belated realization about an Oriental sculpture, Ruby's describing what turns her on, and Trevor's observations about the Mile High Club.

For me, the best sketch of the evening was Janie's. It was hilarious to see how an ugly sculpture could inspire erotic thoughts in everyone, thoughts they might not otherwise have. If it were not for the sculpture, would Janie have gone off with the artist, someone whom she ordinarily wouldn't be caught dead with? And would her mother have thought about Morley Safer in that certain way? Madame Nadja's observations rang very truthfully to me, Trevor's comments were hilarious, and Hope's comments made me want to become a Mexican wrestler <g>.

RATING: 2 1/2 bells.
